Morgans Playgroup was established in 1989 and is based within the extensive grounds of Morgans Primary School in Hertford. Whilst the playgroup benefits from strong links to the school, the building has its own private entrance and playground providing a wonderful and safe environment for the children to play and explore the world around them.
Morgans Playgroup follows the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework. Within the seven areas of learning, there are three areas that are particularly crucial for igniting children’s curiosity and enthusiasm for learning, and for building their capacity to learn, form relationships and thrive. These areas are:
We focus on being child-led when it comes to activities. Whilst the room will be set up with resources on arrival, we listen to the children's interests and what they want to do and our planning is very much 'in the moment'.
Morgans Playgroup is a self-financing charity. The playgroup is registered and inspected by Ofsted as well as being a member of the Early Years Alliance. The playgroup is staffed by qualified childcare professionals and managed by a committee of parent volunteers.
In November 2021, Morgans Playgroup was graded to be 'Good'.
'Children make good progress and develop the skills that support them in their future learning. Staff understand each child and know what they need to learn next' Ofsted 2021
'Staff make good use of children's interests to help build on their knowledge.' Ofsted 2021
''Children build good language skills and enjoy talking with staff. Young children chalking on the path pretend to splash in the 'puddles' they have drawn. A staff member extends their language, repeating words, such as 'splish, splash' and 'jumping'. Ofsted 2021

Our staff are experienced, dedicated, and passionate about early childhood education. They create a warm and welcoming environment where children feel safe, valued, and supported. Each member brings their unique background and expertise to the classroom, ensuring that every child receives individualized attention and care.
Over the last year, we have been working to make Morgans Playgroup a more naturally resourced setting, moving away from the bright commercial plastics and character themes. Our room has a very calm and peaceful vibe, with a strong emphasis on bringing the outside, inside. We have a beautiful outdoor play area where children can explore nature, play games, and engage in physical activity. We aim to free-flow as much as possible, allowing the children to decide where they want to play. Our facilities are safe, clean, and age appropriate, providing the perfect setting for learning and growth.
